4)
Belief in the Prophets and Messengers of God:
The fourth
essential condition of faith (al - Iman) is to believe in
the Prophets and Messenger of God The Most High.
The Prophets
(p.b.u.) were individuals of exceptionally high character
who were chosen by God the Most High, to receive and then
to communicate His commands, ordinances, prohibitions, and
good tiding to His servants.
The prophets
(p.b.u.) were emissaries from God the Most Great, chosen
to turn man away from errors like associating partners with
God the Most High, or worshipping idols and to guide true
believers to happiness both in this world and the Hereafter.
As the
intelligence of man is insufficient by itself to find the
right way to salvation, God the Most High, sent the prophets
(p.b.u.) for the purpose of assisting His servants in their
search.
The Prophets
(p.b.u.) were supported by God Almighty with miracles
in which many extraordinary phenomena, the like of which
had never been witnessed or heard before and which had normally
been deemed impossible, were easily performed through the
divine grace and permission of God Almighty.
Muslims
believe in the prophets and the messengers of God,the Most
High.
The first
man and the first prophet was Adam (p.b.u). Adam (p.b.u.)
our first father and Eve (Hawa) our first mother were placed
on earth from paradise, clean and pure.
In contrast
with claims made by traditional evolutionary scientist,
the origin of man may be traced to Adam (p.b.u.) This is
being confirmed currently by the leading edge of scientific
research thereby allowing for a reunification of religious
and scientific teachings.
If one
takes into consideration all places in the world for the
whole of time, according to one narration (riwayah)
From Muhammad (p.b.u.h.), God Almighty appointed 124,000
Prophets (p.b.u.). However, only the names of 28 Prophets
(p.b.u.) knowledge of who is compulsory upon all Muslims,
have been mentioned in the Glorious Qur’an.
The prophets
and messenger of God Almighty, starting with Adam, including
Noah, Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, and Jesus (peace
be upon them).
But God’s
final message to man, a reconfirmation of the eternal message,
was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (p.b.u.h.).
Muslims
believe that Muhammad (p.b.u.h.) is the last prophet
and the Seal of the Prophets sent by God the Most Supreme.
God has said: “Muhammad is not the father of any one
of your men, but He is the Messenger of God and the last
of the Prophets...” (Qur’an, 33:40)
THE
QUALITIES OF THE PROPHETS (p.b.u.t.)
Muslims believe that all the prophets and messengers
were created human beings who had none of the divine qualities
of God.
There are five qualities possessed by the prophets (p.b.u.)
that are necessary for us to know.
••• The Truthful One:The prophets (peace be upon
them) were truthful. They never lied.
••• The Trustworthy One:The prophets (p.b.u.) were
trustworthy. They could be relied on in all sircumstances.
••• The Communicatory: The prophets (p.b.u.) were unhesitatingly
communicated to people God’s commands and prohibitions without
leaving anything out.
••• The Intelligent one:The prophets (p.b.u.)
had the highest degree of intelligence.
••• The Innocent One: The prophets (p.b.u.) were
innocent of any wrongdoing. They were far from committing
any sins.
MUHAMMAD (P.B.U.H.)
Muhammad (p.b.u.h.) the Seal of the Prophets was gifted
by God the Most High with five additional qualities:
••• He was superior to all other Prophets (p.b.u.)
••• He was appointed as the Messenger of the whole
of humanity and jinn.
••• He was the Seal of the Prophets that is
the last Prophet. No other Prophet shall come after Him.
••• He has been sent as a Mercy to all worlds.
••• The religious code and way of life (al- shariah)
which he brought shall remain in effect until the day of
Judgment.
